Architectural Black and White Photography Workshops

Workshops in ‘The City of Arts and Sciences’, Valencia, Spain: 3 full days of panoramic black and white photography. Learn how to create strong, bold, elegant, panoramic, black and white photography followed by an overview of the Photoshop retouching techniques for modern, architectural, panoramic black and white photography. Composition is understanding where to stand and how objects interact with each other. The smallest movement of the camera position dramatically changes how objects align. Workshops held in the condensed, architectural environment of Valencia, Spain means this subject is easily demonstrated; the architectural lines show these interactions clearly.

Workshops ~ Foundation in Black and White Quality

The foundation of all photography is black and white photography; color photography is no more than black and white photography overlaid with color information. Black and white photography is the tonal foundation layer that gives all your photographs the structure, light, form, texture, spatial depth and three-dimensional quality. The ability to create great black and white photographs with all these qualities and full of rich, dark shadow detail, is the core skill to learn and workshops introduce you to. The panoramic black and white workshops will teach you the principles of how to create these fundamental qualities from the exposure in the camera to Photoshop retouching principles.

Black & White Workshops ~ Panorama Heads and PTGui

All the black and white photography shown here, was taken with a panoramic head, shooting multiple rows with a Nikon D800E camera and a Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art lens. The black and white panoramic photographs being stitched with PTGui, panoramic image stitching software, followed by black and white Photoshop retouching. While not essential to shoot with a panoramic head; wide-angle lenses can be used, but will create ugly distortions in the black and white architectural images. Part of the Valencia, Spain panoramic black and white workshops is to teach you the best panoramic capture process and show how the PTGui software creates very natural perspectives.

Workshops In Valencia, Spain

Spain: Valencia is located on the east coast of Spain level with palma de Mallorca with a subtropical Mediterranean climate ideal for giving the highest chance of good weather and dark blue skies while taking our black and white panoramic photos. Blue skies that can very easily be transformed into the dramatic, solid black skies in the final black and white architectural photographs. Valencia is the third-largest city in Spain after Madrid and Barcelona, using the Euro as their currency; Spain is in the EU. Valencia is a contrast of both the very old Spanish architecture with buildings like the Palau de la Generalitat Valenciana; a hospital founded in 1409 and Valencia Cathedral to the very ultra-modern architecture about one mile away we use for the Valencia panoramic black and white photography workshops; the ‘Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias’ – The City of Arts and Sciences’, Valencia, Spain. Address is: Av. del Professor López Piñero, 7, 46013 València, Valencia, Spain. The City of Arts and Sciences’ is a modern entertainment and cultural complex in Valencia, Spain; a stunning, modern architecture location by the Spanish architects Santiago Calatrava and Felix Candela, inaugurated in 2005. The complex contains an IMAX cinema, museums, oceanographic park and opera house. Amazing architecture to learn the art of panoramic black and white photography. The Photoshop and PTGui content of the workshops will be held in a hotel only 400 meters from The City of Arts and Sciences – a quick 5-minute walk away making it ideal for early morning and late-night shoots. Valencia has an abundance of both Spanish and international food, along with shopping malls and hotels, many only a short walk away from The City of Arts and Sciences. Panoramic black and white workshops are in English language only with tuition by David Osborn; a professional photographer, London, UK.
