The Photography Workflow.
A structured workflow for creative freedom and technical confidence.
The Masterclass Goal: A Photography Workflow for Creativity.
Digital photographs are the product of image editing software, not the camera. Relying on a single “in-camera” exposure is an old-fashioned approach that limits your creative potential. Shooting multiple exposures on a tripod allows them to be aligned in Photoshop, offering unlimited creative opportunities and higher technical quality. This course teaches you how to research, plan, previsualise and evaluate your composition using a tripod-based approach. I explain how to break down a scene into its components and which combination of components to shoot. – You gain the technical confidence to shoot any subject at any time of day, under any lighting conditions, in a methodical, structured and repeatable way.
Benefits for your Photography.
1. Why it’s important to “shoot for Photoshop”. You need to view the camera as a “data collector”, a means of collecting “assets” for the image editing software. This gives you greater opportunity and freedom to create pictures, not just take them. This approach removes the creative limitation of totally relying on the camera.
2. Master the art of previsualisation. You judge the scene by “what it can become”, not “what you see now”. – Previsualisation means building the final picture in your mind and then shooting the assets to realise it. Previsualisation also allows you to judge if the image you imagine will work as a final image after Photoshop editing.
3. Learn how the camera alters the tones. The camera does not record the tones you see, and you can’t be in control of the image if you don’t understand how the tones will change. – Brightening shadows in software destroys quality; bracketing enhances quality. I explain how to achieve milky smooth shadow tones and detail.
4. Capture high-quality data in any environment. Many potentially great photos are never taken because the lighting and contrast are beyond the photographer’s technical ability. – I explain how to capture HDR scenes without resorting to HDR software. The ability to capture any subject under any brutal contrast conditions.
5. Research and plan with intent. The “shoot, hope and pray” approach just relies on luck. I explain how to research, plan, and shoot for a single composition. How to ask all the questions you use when editing the shoot at home, but apply them to your single composition before you shoot, so you create one really “wow” photograph.
